Every month, your company may appear thousands of times in Google’s AI-generated answers without you knowing it. Google’s new Generative AI Performance Report finally lets businesses measure this hidden visibility, identify missed opportunities, and improve their presence where more customers are beginning their buying journey.

Measure, Understand, and Improve your AI Presence.
What is the Generative AI Performance Report from Google Search Console?
Until now, marketers could optimize content for Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, but they had no reliable way to measure whether their websites were actually appearing in Google’s AI generated search experiences.
The new Generative AI Performance Report in Google Search Console, found under Performance > Search Results > Generative AI, changes that. It helps businesses understand whether their content is being surfaced in Google’s generative AI features across Search and Discover.

along with links to relevant websites for further exploration.

Note: Not all properties have access to the Generative AI Performance Report, as Google is rolling out over time. If your site hasn’t received enough impressions in generative AI features on Google Search or you’ve excluded your site from Search generative AI features, you won’t see this report.
Why the Generative AI Performance Report Matters for Your Marketing ROI
When potential customers ask Google complex questions, they often rely on AI-generated summaries to make decisions. If your company isn’t there, you’re invisible during one of the earliest stages of the buying journey. This Generative AI Performance Report helps you:
- Track AI Impressions: See which pages are being cited in AI Overviews or AI Mode.
- Prioritize International Efforts: Discover which countries are actively surfacing your content via AI.
- Understand device performance: Compare AI visibility across desktop and mobile devices.
- Measure the impact of your content strategy: Track how your optimization efforts improve your AI presence over time.
Note. The Google Search Console’s Generative AI Performance Report only shows impressions, without identifying the search feature or reporting clicks and CTR.

AI Impressions (from AI CSV) < [Insert Benchmark])

4. In Knowledge:
You can click the + to upload a PDF or text file containing your “Brand Voice” or “Target Keywords” so it knows how to write the recommendations

How to Use Your Google Gem AI Visibility Auditor
Once you save the Gem, it will appear in your sidebar. Every time you need an audit click your AI Visibility Auditor Gem, upload your two latest CSVs from Google Search Console with the following columns [Page], [Clicks], [Impressions], [AI_Impressions].
Before uploading, you can use this prompt:
“I am uploading two files: [File A] and [File B]. Please use the ‘Page’ column as the unique key to merge them. If the CSVs have header rows, please identify them correctly before performing the audit of this month’s data.”
Every audit will follow the same structure, making month-to-month comparisons much easier.
